This site is a tribute to Eric (Bill) Parkinson as a celebration of his life.
A little 'cameo' of Dad (by Lynda)
Dad was an avid traveller, loved the organ for entertainment (he played the organ in his local cinema when he was a very young man) and steam locomotives - having been an engineer for most of his professional career. He loved to talk to people and particularly loved Bible study and talking about Jesus alongside his wife, Barbara, who passed away 20 years ago in 2004 and is still very much missed.
Dad was only ever conventional if he had to be and so we will miss his zest for life and the often very funny (sometimes irritating!) and quirky things that made him so unique. He lived life to the full and was loved dearly by his family - two daughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren by whom he was known as 'Grandlebones'. When he was celebrating his 90th birthday, he ended up chasing his two little great-grandchildren round the dining table much to their delight - not many 90 year olds can claim to have done that!
His travels took him all over the world - for many years with his wife and my mum Barbara and in the latter years with his friend and partner Mavis - his final trip being to Mauritius from where he returned just over two weeks before he passed away. In late April/early May he treated his daughters and husbands to a week's cruise to Cornwall, Ireland and northern Ireland to celebrate his 92nd birthday which was a joy - especially watching him play shuffleboard on the deck and generally losing! Dad was a great sport and a caring and kind man and we will miss him very much.
